Rue de la Monnaie #paris . The fascinating detail in this site is the continued existence of the building on the right. It is in Marville’s image of 1865 and despite the new buildings in front and behind, it still exists. Remarkably, these are the blocks of the Samaritaine department store which runs from the river to here on Rue de Rivoli. The old building was simply incorporated into the growing complex. The Samaritaine building on the left is not the same structure as the one in Marville’s day, yet the architects maintained the angled corner entrance. Today, with the demise of le Samaritaine, it has become one of the Zara clothing stores.
